Botox Q & A

What is Botox?

Botox is a type of injectable that smooths out fine lines and wrinkles. These unsightly lines form from years of muscle contractions when you smile, frown, laugh, or have other facial expressions.

Botox is made from a purified form of the bacterium Clostridium botulinum toxin type A. Dr. Dittrich injects Botox directly into certain muscles in your face. They go to work immediately to stop excessive muscle contractions, so all you’re left with is smoother, younger looking skin.

The aesthetic specialists at Professional Aesthetics & Wellness Center also offer Dysport®, which is an alternative to Botox. Plus, to further smooth out wrinkles and refine your skin, you may benefit from volumizing and plumping dermal filler injections, such as Restylane® or Juvéderm®.

Are Botox injections painful?

The needles used for Botox, Dysport, and dermal filler injections are very thin. Depending on the injection site, you might feel some initial pinching, but it only lasts for a split second. If you’re sensitive to pain or are really uncomfortable during your appointment, Dr. Dittrich can provide a topical numbing cream that can make your treatments more comfortable.

Do Botox injection treatments take a long time?

No. Treatment with Botox, Dysport, and dermal filler injections takes less than 10 minutes; so by the time you check in at Professional Aesthetics & Wellness Center, get your injections, then check out, you can be in and out of the office in less time than it takes you to get lunch.

If you need numbing cream, you might need to give yourself a little extra time, so you can apply the cream before your appointment and give it time to numb your skin.

Will I need time to recover after Botox injections?

No. Adults with more sensitive skin might have some redness and swelling in the treatment areas after their injections. These effects are only temporary and often disappear within a few hours. Aside from that, you won’t have any downtime or a recovery period after Botox or another type of injectable with Dr. Dittrich. You can go right back to your normal activities after leaving your appointment.

How long do Botox results last?

You’re probably going to start noticing a difference in your appearance before you leave Dr. Dittrich’s office. Most patients notice even more improvements after 1-3 days after receiving Botox injections.*

Optimal results with Botox, or even Dysport, typically last anywhere from 3-4 months, although your injections may last even longer if you have finer lines, rather than deeper wrinkles. Dermal fillers, including Juvéderm and Restylane last even longer — up to 12-24 months.

During your consultation at Professional Aesthetics & Wellness Center, Dr. Dittrich can let you know what to expect and how long your treatment should last for your specific treatment area.
