Age Spot Removal Q & A

How do age spots develop?

Age spots, also referred to as liver spots, develop from overexposure to ultraviolet rays that trigger the skin to produce pigment cells, also known as melanin, that create dark patches of skin on your face, shoulders, arms, or hands. The spots are very common in adults over age 50, but if you spend a lot of time in the sun, you may develop the darkened skin at a much earlier age.

At Professional Aesthetics & Wellness Center, Dr. Dittrich can reverse the sun damage and aging using IPL photorejuvenation. He offers this treatment to remove age spots from your face, arms, neck, hands, and décolleté.

What is IPL photorejuvenation?

IPL photorejuvenation is an innovative cosmetic treatment that gently transforms your skin using light energy. When applied, the intense pulses of light penetrate your skin, causing the blood vessels and collagen cells to constrict for an immediate improvement in skin color. The energy also stimulates the production of collagen, which is the protein in your skin that provides strength and elasticity, to smooth out imperfections and improve tone.

IPL photorejuvenation at Professional Aesthetics & Wellness Center erases age spots, sun damage, irregular pigmentation, and rosacea for a vibrant and fresh look.*

What can I expect during age-spot removal?

Before age-spot removal begins, Dr. Dittrich covers your eyes with protective eyewear and applies a cooling gel, which eases discomfort and helps the handpiece glide smoothly over your skin. During treatment, you may feel a snapping sensation that feels like a rubber band as the pulses of light penetrate your skin.

Depending on the size of the area you’re having treated, you can expect your photorejuvenation procedure to take an hour or less. There’s no downtime following the procedure and you can go right back to your usual activities.

After treatment, your skin may feel tight and appear red, but these side effects should disappear within a few hours. Over the next week or so, the pigmented cells are drawn to the surface of your skin and flake off to reveal the fresher, newer skin underneath. Over the next several weeks, your skin should continue to improve in tone and health.

For optimal results, Dr. Dittrich may recommend a series of treatments to achieve your aesthetic goals.
