Find Your Health and Wellness Coach – 4 Tips

In the business world there is term called “continuous improvement”. The basis for this concept is that to achieve optimal results you continuously focus on taking actions to make things better.  This is similar to our personal journey to be our best and healthiest selves.  As we travel through life, we learn, we grow, and we (hopefully) move towards being the best person we can be in all areas: our career, our personal lives, and our health. As we progress, we learn more about what works best for us. We apply what we’ve learned and then move forward and learn more and apply more.

For our careers, we may have a business coach who can provide insights. In our personal lives, we have mentors or people whose opinion we trust who may help us through challenges in our personal growth.  But we may not give this same attention to our health and wellness.  That includes making sure our appearance reflects the vitality we feel.

That’s where a health and wellness “coach” can come in.  There are many types of professionals who claim they have the capability to guide us to your best health and wellness.  Here are four tips on how to evaluate options and make a choice:

What is their level of medical training?

When we speak about health and wellness, the ultimate training is a medical degree.  The experience gained in treating patients with multiple conditions and partnering with those patients over a period of years is invaluable.  That is the type of experience that should be helpful in managing your own health and wellness.

What services do they offer?

Health and wellness treatments could include medical treatments such as bioidentical hormone replacement therapy to address hormone imbalances, or cosmetic treatments such as Botox or fillers. Sometimes a combination of treatments might be what you want.

Is their staff professional and well trained?

Not all treatments require a physician to administer them, but the staff delivering treatments should be well trained and working under the supervision of a physician.  You should feel comfortable in the hands of confident, experienced staff.

Are they listening to you?

If you have a concern, and think you have identified a solution, a physician trained in wellness may be able to point out alternatives that you have not considered that might help address your concerns more effectively.  Of course, you’ll need to be open to this type of feedback.  But by working with a medical professional you can get help in cutting through the confusion of what types of approaches may work best for your individual situation and what may be less effective.  They will also be able to take into account your personal medical history.
